Dancer’s Jest is a game played with two six-sided dice. Each participant will need his or her own set of dice.
First, each player will ante into the game, placing the minimum bet in the center of the group. Typical bets are around one silver piece, although richer groups may play for gold.
As six-sided dice are the most common, and Dancer’s Jest a common game, all the players throw their dice at the same time.
In Dancer’s Jest, whoever rolls closest to ‘eight’ wins. A ‘hard eight,’ with both dice showing a four, beats ‘lesser eights,’ which include a 6/2, and a 5/3.
‘The Dance continues,’ if there is a tie, with winners continuing to roll without increasing the bet until someone wins.
